Scrivener is a word processing software package that is especially helpful if you appreciate assistance in keeping long and complicated documents well organized as you write them. I used it last semester in writing a circa 150-page integrated science textbook, with many sections and subsections and images and the like. Although still a relative novice myself, this session will give a quick introduction to the sometimes-quirky Scrivener interface, along with its organizational tools, research tools, and the process of compiling and finishing a document.

I don’t see this being so useful for writing a text with code samples. But it definitely looks easier to format than Word. Word was a formatting monster for my thesis.

    David,
Thank you for the great information you shared. The software is a really useful tool. It is a perfect tool for formatting a long writing material like thesis and also writing a physics book. Thanks.

Thank you, David! I had bought Scrivener for writing fiction but found it a bit overwhelming. This is helpful. I will ready for the next National Novel Writing Month 🙂
