Words matter. They frame our thinking about choices, acceptable behavior, expectations, and ultimately the care we extend. Market rhetoric and metaphors pervade thinking about higher education to the detriment of our institutions, students, and communities. It creates a “Professor’s dilemma”. But there are alternatives. This session will open with a short, 5-10 minute overview of the presentation Jim gave last April at the international OERxDomains21 conference. Then we’ll have a discussion of the terms and metaphors that guide our thinking about higher education and how that impacts care.
