What is a cultural portrait? Six LCC professionals spent a semester discussing this question, reading about it, and producing six lovely compositions, ranging from a single page of digital art to a 12-page self-story. For sure, producing a cultural portrait is a journey of self-discovery and self-knowledge, and an opportunity to tap into our creative side. Beyond that, the cultural portrait composing process facilitates the development of transferable knowledge, which can, in turn, translate to the classroom space. During this presentation, we will discuss how the cultural portrait composing process might be used as a teaching tool to help us all comprehend the expertise and life experiences that shape our and others’ perception of the world, in the context of a college class.
