Let’s take the principles discussed in the book Radical Hope and see how they apply to the ESL students in your classroom. How can we reduce the cognitive load? How can we expand our idea of access and accessibility? What can we do to create a syllabus and a learning environment that is “just, equitable, and humane” for ESL students? What kinds of “treacherous terrain” do ESL students face that others may not? Participants will share challenges and solutions focused on Teaching and Learning Inclusively (Ch 4), and Making Access Mean Something (Ch. 5) for nonnative speakers of English. The presenter will moderate and offer suggestions for how to apply radical hope to teaching immigrant, refugee, and international students in your classrooms.
