Assessment often feels like a COVID-19 test: Medical instruments shoved up one’s nose, causing acute pain and leading to simple yes/no results. However, I have come to believe that true assessment should feel more like a simple COVID-19 screening: Answer a few questions and maybe take one’s temperature–leaving both the screener and the screened more aware of the individual’s health and potential risks. In this session, I’ll share how I conduct daily assessments with little effort on my part but have gleaned a wealth of information about how well students understand then apply course content and about their health as learners.
