Learning from Today’s Learners

“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the sea.”  ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery

As we know, teaching involves a relationship between the instructor and the students. It’s definitely a give-and-take, which is why it is important ask for some kind of feedback or interaction each week. In past TLTT classes, we used to ask participants to invite a small student panel to the class and then ask them a series of questions, like the ones on the survey we’ve asked you to share with your students. It was always a good experience, but we were only having about  4 or 5 students join us face to face, which is what inspired us to create a survey that can be distributed to many students. We are grateful for those students (69 of them!) who took the time to share their thoughts. Thank you to those of you who were able to share the survey link with your students. We could have summarized the comments, but wanted you to see how many are similar, and what kinds of patterns there are. Happy reading! NOTE: When we meet for our last class in week 9 (March. 31), we will discuss the Learning from the Learner survey results and the four student videos. Keep these questions in mind:
-Trends that you see in their words.
– Did anything strike you, in particular?
-What are some general things students look for and look out for?
-What might we be able to do to improve their experiences?
-If you’re teaching this semester, what are your students struggling with?
– What are your thoughts about teaching during a crisis and how might you help your students adjust?
– What are your thoughts on how you’ll design your online and/or face-to-face classes?
– If you could ask a question to your upcoming students, what would it be?
