ORT Attendance and Participation in Discussions

Your attendance is required for our ORT meetings and participation in the discussions during those meetings is expected- to the degree that is comfortable for you. Participation not only includes talking, but also commenting in the chat, using emoji’s, etc. If you are unable to attend one of the required ORT sessions, please contact Megan or Lisa.

A primary purpose for our ORT meetings and discussions is so that we can review and talk about the materials presented each week. Discussions not only connect us ( and students) to the topic, but they are instrumental for helping to develop skills of synthesis and integration. Further, discussions provide a diversity of perspectives and expands the capacity for the clear communication of ideas and meaning. Most of our discussions will occur during our ORT meetings, but the “comment” feature is available on each weekly activity post here in our WordPress site and we ask that you post a minimum of six comments (1 per Unit) by the time the course has finished as well. A few of our activities will include breakout rooms and also may include short written reflections. Reflection is a powerful tool for helping students create meaning and connect with the course content. Self-reflection can help students build meta-cognitive skills, ultimately increasing the desire to move past grades and focus on learning.
