Engaging Students in D2L with Kaltura Multimedia

Kaltura multimedia can be embedded across D2L courses in multiple tools to enhance the learning experience and engage students. Consider the following options to engage your students with Kaltura multimedia:

  1. Create video D2L Announcements in your course – Use a short video to introduce each week and review the materials and assessments that were covered the previous week and those that will be covered in the current week. Seeing and hearing you will help to remind students that you are a real person that is there to guide them through the course. Don’t want to be on camera? That’s ok! Create a fun PowerPoint slide that lists out what will be covered that week and record your computer screen and voice instead.Kaltura screen shot
  2. Use video to introduce D2L Discussion topics – When creating D2L Discussions, consider using video as part of your discussion starter. Whether it’s a part of the introduction or used to provide additional content, video can help to keep the attention of students and create a more dynamic experience in a traditionally text-based tool. Also, don’t forget that students can create and post Kaltura video in their D2L Discussion posts and replies, so consider making video posts an option for students.

  4. Add video to D2L Quiz questions – Video can be a great addition to D2L quiz questions, helping to prompt more in-depth responses that require analysis of the video. Instructors can create videos of processes or find other media sources that support their learning outcomes and assessment goals in order to present another way for students to demonstrate their knowledge and skill.Kaltura screenshot 3
