Ana Araya-Anchetta

Ana earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Costa Rica. She moved to Flagstaff, AZ in 2006 to attend Northern Arizona University where she focused on the population genetics of ticks for her dissertation. She graduated in 2012 with a Ph.D. in Biology from NAU. Currently, Ana teaching and coordinates Bio 181, an introductory course for Biology and Health Sciences majors at NAU. As coordinator, Ana has had the opportunity to incorporate innovative technologies and student-centered teaching techniques to the teaching of Bio 181. As part of her efforts of improving her teaching, Ana became an ACUE fellow in 2018. Ana is passionate about affect positively the life of her students which is the main focus of her work.

Mar-Elise Hill

Associate Clinical Professor

Mar-Elise Hill is a Associate Clinical Professor and ACUE certified educator in the Biology Department at Northern Arizona University. She has taught college-level biology courses for 16 years but got hooked on teaching while working as an instructor for the Willow Bend Environmental Education Center as an undergraduate. Mar has experience teaching in both online, blended, and in-person modalities.

Flower Darby celebrates and promotes excellent teaching for the sake of our students and their learning. She’s the Director of Teaching for Student Success at Northern Arizona University, where she’s taught for over 23 years in English, Educational Technology, Leadership, Dance and Pilates. Flower teaches face-to-face, blended and online classes at NAU, and she also teaches online classes at Estrella Mountain Community College. She loves to apply effective teaching principles and practices across the disciplines and to help others do the same. Flower speaks, writes, presents and consults on teaching and learning theory and practice nationally and internationally. She’s the author, with James M. Lang, of Small Teaching Online: Applying Learning Science in Online Classes (2019).

Bonni Stachowiak

Bonni Stachowiak is the producer and host of the Teaching in Higher Ed podcast, which has been airing weekly since June of 2014. Bonni is the Dean of Teaching and Learning at Vanguard University of Southern California. She’s also an Associate Professor of Business and Management and teaches a few times a year in an Educational Leadership doctoral program. She’s been teaching in-person, blended, and online courses throughout her entire career in higher education. Bonni and her husband, Dave, are parents to two curious kids, who regularly shape their perspectives on teaching and learning.
