Facilitating Online Instruction

1. Consider saving PowerPoint presentations as accessible PDFs prior to uploading for easier viewing on mobile devices.

2. Foster communication among students. Encourage them to use the Discussions in D2L or to set up Skype or Facetime meetings themselves. Consider virtual labs if you are teaching a lab course. For example, are there videos that exist for your labs? Can you simulate data so the students can analyze results?

3. Other digital tools to encourage course discussion and participation: Have students submit assignments through D2L Assignments. To reduce work on the back end, consider requiring specific file names like [first name]_[last name]_[assignment title].

4. Assess student learning using D2L quizzes. You can also consider offering an alternative assignment to either replace an exam or provide students a choice when it is appropriate.
