Reading Time: 2 minutes

As stated by Albert Einstein, “Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking.” Albert Einstein has always made me curious about what I am thinking and doing. This quote was interesting because it reminds me that after reading a topic, your mind begins thinking about how the researcher thinks and does not challenge your thinking about if some other way might be better. Within the laws of Archaeology, everything functions on a “good faith effort,” but great ethics need to be created with a creative mind to support communities and not harm them.
Students should be taught basic information before trying to make more and more complex scenarios. I have talked to some people mentioning “throwing the students into the water to see if they can swim.” However, they need the resources to succeed in completing the task, and in the end, feedback would be helpful for future scenarios. I plan on achieving this by providing information and then having a case study to apply what was already learned. I had a professor have a case study that she presented, and together as a class, we thought about what laws, and how we could handle the project, and the professor would provide feedback on what we did right and what we forgot. This helped me to reinforce what I know and remind myself of what I forgot.
When I was applying for jobs, employers wanted people who used their knowledge and put it into practice. With case studies to spark applying knowledge and creativity, the scenarios will help the students think from experience in the classroom. Plus, the scenarios would be an experience that would impress the employer by explaining in depth what scenario they received and explain in detail how they solved it and what they learned from it.
All in all, I believe that using case studies for the students to solve in an applied way would help the students learn from what they have read or reinforce what they already know and begin to think in creative ways. Plus, the applied case study would have a story for the student to mention to a future employer about their experience working through a challenge and trying to solve it. Plus, get feedback from me to get an idea of how they can improve and benefit the employer.
